Day 9 - Kings Canyon

After an early start - on the bus by 7am we took off for the long drive to Kings Canyon.

After about an hour and a half we stopped at Historic Hermannsburg - Lutheran Mission from the 1800's, birthplace of Albert Namatjira and home now to the Central Australian Aboriginal Choir (as seen in the ABC documentary "Song keepers"). We had a quick look around before heading to Albert Namatjira's homestead. It was very sad to see that the home of one of Australia's greatest artist is not being cared for by our governments.

We then got back on the road for the long trip to Kings Canyon - about 4 hours on unpaved and very bumpy roads.

We arrived at the Canyon about 12.30 and started our walk to the South Rim. The girls and our guide took off at a cracking pace. The walk was a little challenging but certainly worth the views.

We headed back to King's Creek for lunch before starting the 2+ hour drive to the Curtin Springs Cattle Station - our accommodation and meals for the night. It is the largest cattle station in Australia. On the way there we stopped for photo's of Mount Connor and Lake Amadeus - a salt lake that lies between us and Uluru.

Another early start tomorrow - all our love to those family and friends at home!
