Day 7 - Back to Alice Springs

Today we waved goodbye to Santa Teresa, Sr Liz, Fr Prakesh and the amazing community we have lived and working in since Saturday and headed back to Alice Springs. First stop was Simpson’s Gap - a popular water hole and wedding photo destination.

Afterwards we were running early for the next tour so we had 30 mins in Todd Mall where the girls bought some souvenirs and snacks.

We then visited the School of the Air and learnt how the kids in remote areas learn through Internet lessons and tutors. Next was The Old Telegraph Station for lunch and a tour. It was built in 1870’s and changed how we communicated across Australia and with the world.

We then went to the Alice Springs Desert Park. 54 hectares of flora and fauna. We started with the dingoes, then the emus then we went to the bird show. Some of the girls were freaked out when the birds swooped over our heads (no names!). The owls and kites and falcons were amazing. We then checked out the kangaroos and nocturnal animals.

The film at the end was fantastic.

We checked into our accommodation for the next two nights. The sttudents are very happy. En-suite cabins - they are 3 to a room and there is air con and TV. It's luxury after our week at Santa Teresa. Looking forward to sleeping in sheets and donnas and not a sleeping bags tonight!
